Ryzen 1700x idle temp

Hello I have the amd ryzen 1700x processor over clocked to 3.8 GHz, 1.325V,

With the captain 240EX liquid cooler in push configuration

I don understand why, but my idle temp sits around 47-51C and load temps under p95 Max heat is 70C. Any idea why the idle temp wouldn't go down further? Cpu utilization could be 2% and it never drops below that temp. For idling, this is with the fans either at Max speed, or 40%. It cannot take that idle temp lower. Thanks!

Have you updated the BIOS?

What are you using to read temps? I believe the X series have the +20C offset reading.

Yes but that was removed later, which means that he probably should have updated the BIOS to remove it

Bios version is up to date. Asus ROG crosshair VI hero, BIOS version 1501. Yes they did just release the 1601 but that won't affect read temps.

I think I figured out the issue. some background processes were using a lot of power. It would show 2 % utilization but it was 40% utilization for one of the 16 threads. Temps have dropped from 45C to 35C after ending some background processes (not windows related). I will mark this as the answer if it holds true

holding true, on ryzen balanced power plan, once I turned off some background processes, the temps will now idle closer to 35C.

Could you help advise what background processes did you turn off?
I'm having the save issue. CPU 15 from HWMonitor shows 85% usage when idle.

I just closed whatever was open that wasn't needed. Turning off browser notifications, closing browser, steam, discord, VPN, bittorrent, anything other than a system background process. Those sort of things made a big difference. Also, switching to the ryzen balanced power plan helped
