Intel 945m chipset, Processor supported?

i have a motherboard with Intel 945GM (Calistoga-GM) + ICH7 chipset, LGA775 (FC-LGA6) platform with Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 can i upgrade to a core 2 quad q9400 or atleast to a core 2 duo e8500 .
i want to know what processor can i upgrade to maximum? (core2quad preferred)

exact motherboard model - LORD ELECTRONICS CO.,LTD. 945GM ICH7 Series

also i want to know upto how much Gb and Mhz ram can i upgrade?

doesn't look like you can use a q9400. You may be able to do the e8500 though.

The problem being, I can't find any info on the particular mobo. However, looking at other mobo's with the same chipset, it does support the e8500. On the ram side of things. From memory i think those mobo's maxed out 16gb. Four slots with 4gbs. But your's may have only two slots. And because it takes DDR2, unless you have already got the dimms, you will pay through the nose for really old ram that you know will work.

I suspect, the ram speed is 667mhz, so that will be 333mhz ddr 2 (it mulitplies x 2 to get 667) it's the old quad pupmped Intel FSB, which equates to 1333mhz which is the bus speed of the e8500. So you don't need to get DDR2 400 dimms. THat would be a waste.

With all of that said, don't waste money on that pc. it's dead. won't be able to game too well, by todays standards. If you are just using it to surf the web or email, then stick with you current e6420.

i am getting free core 2 quad q6600 so i was curious if i can place it in my mobo??

Intel 945GM Chipset is a Core/Core 2 mobile chipset. Mobile is some sort of a laptop.

Desktop CPUs don't fit laptop computers. Intel 945GM Chipset also does not support any quad-core CPU. It does support some dual-core CPUs.

The core 2 quad q6600 is quad-core desktop CPU. There is no "Intel 945m chipset" as listed in Subject line.

Core 2 Duo E6420 is a desktop processor, so it is hard to tell what you have.
