Hi All,

When I first built my gaming pc about a month ago my idle temp for my gpu was about the same as my cpu 26c after startup and idle and 30-35 with internet browsing. This usually goes around 50 when playing csgo which is absolutely fine.

The only changes are I’ve started to play some games which are hogging gpu usage and running it at 100% of which I get 63c, again this is pretty normal.

My concern is after two days of doing this, my pc has been shutdown for around 12 hours and now after startup cpu temps are normal but my gpu is on 55c idle??

Is this normal, I understand the fans don’t really kick in until 60c but I’m concerned something is wrong.

Anyone shed any light on this please.

I have taken my side off but not played any games and this hasn’t changed the temp in the hour I’ve left it off. Touching the plate on the card you can feel it is rather hot.

Yeah I understand I shouldn’t really touch it but was first time I had. No the fans don’t kick in until around 60c I guess I can change this to start at a lower temp.

It’s an Asus rog strix version. I have used their pre built in oc gaming mode settings on the Asus software but I did this on day 1 and hasn’t caused any issues prior to this. I don’t use the built in OC on my Asus z270e mb as when I did try this it did cause some issues.

I will put my gpu back to defaults and see what happens.

Not sure what happened. Not changed anything, just left side panel off and idle cpu is 33c and gpu 38c which is pretty normal. I’ll keep an eye on it.

Thanks for your advice and clarification.

I’ve got a NZXT H440 case and all fans are on a hub. I think fan speed is determined by my cpu temp. Pretty sure I can get a better setup on this but all fans are operating correctly.

EDIT: CPU temp 30c GPU 55c on idle still. Changing to default profile instead of OC made no difference.

CPU is an i7 7700K so shouldn’t have CPU bottleneck issues.

bottlenecks are fiction.
I don't really remember what was the idle temperature of my 1070 on air, but most probably lower. Check if the GPU is running in 3D mode even though you think it's idling. Use the MSI Afterburner (or something like that) and watch the core frequency. On desktop it should be around 200-300MHz for the GPU core.
Anyway, the fans on the GPU are not spinning until GPU gets to 60C. If you want it to be cooler, set the fan curve appropriately.
