My 4790k is overheating like crazy it’s running 80C idol. I have a h100i GTX trying to cool it I’ve put new thermal paste on about 4 times now ranging in amount from a small bit to way too much (thermal grizzly hydronaut) and the heat spreader does make good contact with the block so I’m at a loss because the bloody thing isn’t even overclocked I’ve had it for about 4 years and never overclocked it. It’s a 4790k on an asus z97 duleux with 32GB of Corsair vengeance. The pump on the h100i does work. What could be causing this because it happened one day out of the blue?

Solution
The cooler is not working, plain and simple it may be making noise but it is not working as there is no way it would be hitting 80 idle if the cooler was healthy. its possible the cooler has lost enough water through evaporation or a sudden impact to make it fail or the pump may be broken but the motor still works but this cannot be a healthy cooler.
