Hello,

My Antec PSU blew up today after using it for 2 and 1/2 years. and now looking for a replacement. I have to replace it by tomorrow too.

Looking forward to purchase a Seasonic S12II-520, but if it's not available, have to pick one from below.

Corsair VS 550 / 650 80+
FSP HEXA+ 550
FSP Hydro 600 80+ Bronze
Silverstone Strider Essential ST70F-ES 80+ Certified

1. What do you think the best pick if you have to choose from above list?

2. Do you think Seasonic S12II-520 is a good choice too?

*Mainly use my PC for gaming, and development and rendering purposes
*Hoping to upgrade from GTX 660 to GTX 1060 / RX 480 in future
*Have 5 SATA devices to connect (incl. DVD Drive)
*No overclocking involved

PC Specs:

Intel i5-3470 @ 3.20GHz
ASUS P8B75-V
ASUS GeForce GTX 660 DirectCU II OC
G.SKILL RipjawsX 16GB (2x8GB) 1600 DC
Samsung 850 EVO 250GB + WD Caviar Blue 1TB + Seagate Barracuda 2TB + WD Blue 4TB
Samsung S19D300NY

Thanks.

Solution

Get the FSP Hydro 600W. Those old corsairs are really bad and FSP is still a pretty good oem.
Personally I wouldn't choose any of them.

You need a Haswell Certified UNIT at min to get into the new updated PSU's.

The VS is NOT a gaming PSU.

The Seasonic S12II is NOT Haswell certified (OLD 7+ YO Model), you need to get the S12II EVO or M12II EVO for the more updated units.

If there are Seasonic and Corsair available look at the TXM for Corsair and the G Series for Seasonic.

Thanks for the quick response. Much appreciate your suggestions.

Unfortunately, the mentioned Seasonic models are not available. There is like 1200W PSU, but think it's an overkill and beyond my budget too.

Mine is a i5 3rd Gen Processor. Still need to be Haswell ready? Those FSP units are Haswell ready though.

Yeah, but they are LOWER end, not really a good thing.

What is available?

Ideally yes you want something with newer technology, Haswell Certified is about added protection build in and more power available on the 12V rail.

Seasonic Platinum 1200 and Seasonic X-Series 1250W are the ones available right now from Seasonic. G series gonna take a few months.

PS: Said FSP Hydro comes with a 5 Years warranty too.

What Hydro exactly?

FSP Hydro 600 80+ Bronze - http://www.fsplifestyle.com/PROP163000554/

It's not the G Model... The G is the good one.

Anything else other than that, that is not a good one. It says 600w, but it's only really a 550W... Not a good sign.

Thanks for checking it out.

What do you think about HEXA+ 550?

Low end unit.

What site are you looking at?

Thanks again. Sadly, I have to pick one from what's available until I can jump to TXM or G in coming months.

Any recommendations?[/quotemsg]

Where are you from?

What website?

I'm from Sri Lanka. Here's the list of PSUs -https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Ah8zS-SJijt3VQT0dKK7yVhVBLO-emiG2AKak-mrB4E/pub?gid=3# (They have FSP and Corsair only)

They have zero good ones in stock, I wouldn't trust my PC to any of those they do have now.

I would order online from someplace else.

Yeah - Talk about the timing :) Amazon or Newegg doesn't ship over here either.

Unless I find a good news tomorrow, will have to go LOW end, I guess.

PS: If you can still recommend a better one from the LOW end list in OP, still appreciate it. Planning for the worst if I can't find a good one.

The SeaSonic S12-II is fine for your purposes. With a 3rd Gen Intel i5, you absolutely do not need a Haswell certified psu, as your cpu pre-dates Haswell, which was a 4th generation cpu. The only affect that Haswell certified cpus have over group regulated designs is in Haswell C-states the efficiency of the cpu low power states c4 and lower were tighter than is readily acceptable to a group regulated psu. Meaning normally of your cpu would drop to sleep state C4 or lower, the psu wouldn't be able to wake the pc. But thats in a Haswell or newer cpu. It can also be bypassed in bios and windows power settings by not allowing the cpu to drop into sleep state lower than C3.
Either way, the S12-II is the best of that bunch and will power a 3570k / 1060 easily.

That's what I thought first and read good reviews too. Thanks for the explanation.

In case if I can't find S12-II by tomorrow (in 10 hours), what would you suggest from the list in OP?

By far better than anything else that was listed, leaping over mountains better.

The only brands I knew were Seasonic and Corsair from what's available. Hence I picked the Seasonic at first. But if there's no Seasonic PSUs available tomorrow, that's what I'm trying to figure out.

Appreciate all the answers in this short time.

Really? Thanks for the clarification.

Think I'll go with FSP Hydro 600W then if no Seasonic S12/M12/G or Corsair TXM or FSP Hydro G available.

Much appreciate the answers again.
