ive decided to upgrade the HDD of my pc from 250gb to 1tb, my main concern is power consumption since i am running off a 240w psu and there is no possibility of upgrading on this pc. i did want to opt for an SSD but at 1tb the price is just way too high. so i want to buy a 1tb HDD but instead of just plugging it into the pc, i want to remove my old HDD and replace it with 1TB, so my question is:
-How do i transfer the all HDD files from my old drive to new drive including OS and other system files? so that i no longer need to use the 250gb drive.

Solution
For a successful clone operation, exactly like this:
(disregard the term 'SSD', and substitute 'new HDD')
-----------------------------
Verify the actual used space on the current drive is significantly below the size of the new SSD
Download and install Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration, if a Samsung SSD)
Power off
Disconnect ALL drives except the current C and the new SSD
Power up
Run the Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration)
Select ALL the partitions on the existing C drive
Click the 'Clone' button
Wait until it is done
When it finishes, power off
Disconnect ALL drives except for the new SSD
Swap the SATA cables around so that the new drive is connected to the same SATA port as the old drive
Power up, and...

Connect both drives to the computer.
Use cloning software to make exact copy of your current drive to the new one.
You can use Macrium Reflect, Minitoot Partition Wizard Free or some other cloning software.
If you buy WD drive, then you can also use Acronis True Image WD edition (downloadable from WD site).

Power up, and verify the BIOS boot order
If good, continue the power up

It should boot from the new drive, just like the old drive.
Maybe reboot a time or two, just to make sure.

If it works, and it should, all is good.

Later, reconnect the old drive and wipe as necessary.
Delete the original boot partitions, here:

after i do this, and turn on my pc, what should happen? will i have to reactivate windows or anything like that or should the system boot normally as if nothing even happened?

After cloning you may need to fix bootloader with bcdboot command.
  • bcdboot c:\windows /s h:
(c: - new windows partition, h: - new bootloader partition)
After that remove old hdd, make sure boot order in BIOS is correct and it should boot normally.
No windows reactivation should be required.
