The 7970 is getting a bit 'long in the tooth' , as are processors for socket 1156...
However, the best socket 1156 i7 you can afford will give the best performance in today's games, but, within limits of the older 7970 GPU....; additionally, the processor will be outperformed by even the budget R3-1200, which is what I'd recommend instead...
