I want to know what would be better for fast full load cpu 3d rendering using Arnold or vray in maya which goes on for 2 to 3days straight without reboots. An I7 7740x or amd ryzen 1800x as they belong to the same price range but vary in specs. And what ever processor I choose, I intend to keep using it for the next 4 years atleast.

If you want a editing and rendering machine, the more processor cores you have the better.
So, R7 1800x is the better deal....however...I would pick 1700 or 1700x and save some money. 1800x is not that much faster than 1700x but it costs quite a lot more.

For editing and rendering, more cores is better than faster cores
For vast majority of gaming, faster cores are better than more cores but some games can already run better on more cores.
The "better" does not mean it will suck big time for the other usage.
It will do just fine.
For price/performance value, there is nothing from Intel which beats the Ryzens.
Gaming on R7 1700 should be something like having an I7 7700 (no-K) but 1700 has more cores, which should allow to perform a lot better on rendering work.
