my question is what is the cheapest most time/money efficient way i can turn it into a gaming desktop im not the best at selecting parts that will work together i already have a hdd but im going to pick up a ssd new mobo etc and hopefully work it either in win 7 or 10 i really dont care what i need are both pointers to sites where they have some way for me to incorporate this old case and ideas as to what i should aim for intel amd etc thanks.

Edit: i should specify that the mobo is a micro atx and i plan on salvaging the hdd out of it i actually now have two of these but ones already been upgraded extensively but well bsod so im going to be salvaging a 450w psu and a gtx1050ti out of it.

In late 2005 Nvidia introduced a new member to the GeForce family, the 6100 series, also known as C51. The term GeForce 6100/6150 actually refers to an nForce4-based motherboard with an integrated NV44 core, as opposed to a standalone graphics card.

Pavilion Media Center m8109n
•Chipset: NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430
•Memory sockets: 4 x DDR2
•Processor socket: AM2

Old technology. Case has poor cooling for gaming PC. I would suggest buying a bare PC case for a gaming PC. I don't see much of anything on that system worth using.

Hi, I've upgraded several HPs of that era to gaming systems by adding video cards.

By today's standards an athlon x2 5000+ is a very slow processor. That PC has a 300W power supply. You can stick in a GTX 1030 for less than $100 and have decent gaming balance wihtout needing to change any other parts. But it will be slow.

But what are you planning to use for an operating system. That system was VISTA based. Make sure the games you want to run support VISTA or plan on an Operating system upgrade.

Good luck.

tsnor i am planning to upgrade it to windows 10 and installing the 450w psu off the other system as theres no reason it shouldnt work but i know the graphics processor is probably doa its a old radeon hd6970 which i may try simply installing a gtx1050ti that i have in the upgraded case in the first place and see where that gets me also will probably need a new hdd as that one got dropped but if all it needs is a new os and hdd then to me thats cheap

Calvin7 you are absolutely correct its a old pile but from a starting point its just an empty case in my mind for the moment that will be swapped out later on for something better ive already kind of done some preemptive research on how much a system based on the new ryzen cpu would run minus case etc

bottom line is which should i go with amd or intel for my next cpu and im planning to buy something with some oomph go home or game on kinda deal the case is really just a secondary concern and im not going to be gaming hardcore with it untill i can get a better case

Even today 6970 is not a bad card. . Your total system power with the weak x2 5000+ and the 6970 will be around 300-400W, and your gameplay will be CPU limited unless you really turn up the video spec.. https://www.anandtech.com/show/4061/amds-radeon-hd-6970-radeon-hd-6950/24

The case will be BAD. When I moved from an HP case similar to this one to a fractal design r4 (for an I7-920 at stock frequency) my video card temps fell 20C on hd7850. Suddenly the card would overclock. You do not want to reuse the case if you get a new cpu/mb/memory. The case will also have it's IO shield soldered in, so you need to do some work to get a new MB to fit correctly.

re AMD or Intel, you can make a good $500 system from either. google variations of "best $500 gaming build" for part list options. Or start a new thread requesting builds. Then add in $100 for windows unless you can get a student discount version of windows.

With less than $500, look for a refurbished i5-4xxx or i7-4xxx based system for $250-350 in a case that holds a full size video card (newegg, walmart sell these). That will come with win10, keyboard, mouse and system, 500GB or larger spinning disk and 6GB+ memory. You then add a low power video card for another $100 or so (e.g. gtx1030, gtx1050) which is what you would have done with the Athlon x2, but starting with a CPU strong enough to game.
