So I recently upgraded from GTX 6700 to a GTX 1060 6GB. I thought it would be a major upgrade but instead its a nightmare. No matter what game I am running, I am having serious lag spike and very low fps. Some games that I tried: GTA V, DA:I , NBA 2K 18, TEKKEN7, CITIES SKYLINES( I was so surprised when I was just having 10 fps when close up

My Specs: Intel Core i7 4771k,
Motherboard: ASUS H97 ME
RAM: 8x2gb kingston, no overclock

3d mark test i got :https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/22344834

Solution

Open the monitor for afterburner, look at the CPU temp graph, open game let it run for a little while and see how hot it gets.

Yeah, that's overheating. Take off the CPU cooler, clean off all the thermal paste, apply a new rice sized blob, re fit the CPU cooler, take care that it's correctly mounted tight.
