thanks!

No point upgrading that old and obsolete platform as you can only gain so much in terms of gaming performance. Even a current gen. dual core Pentium outperforms it by miles... http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Pentium-G4600-vs-AMD-Athlon-II-X4-860K/3894vs3265
But you have to upgrade the entire platform for that. This is the minimum you have to spend though...

CPU: Intel - Pentium G4600 3.6GHz Dual-Core Processor ($86.88 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: MSI - B250M PRO-VD Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($41.98 @ Newegg)
Memory: Crucial - 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory ($62.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $191.85

Looks good! thanks for the help dude, it's gonna cost me a bit more but if this is the better way to go then ill do this. Would the dual-core of the Pentium lag down some games? I'm looking at mainly pubg.

PUBG is one game which is equally taxing on both cpu and gpu, probably a bit cpu heavy. A AM4 Ryzen 4 core might help it to scale better. Right now there are no hard and fast benchmarks except here... http://www.pcgamer.com/best-pubg-settings/

Going by the benchmarks, this might serve you better...

But then, its still poorly optimized and is very resource hungry. Might serve you better if you invest a little more and get a better cpu... https://www.tweaktown.com/articles/8189/playerunknowns-...

ok, it seems that the Pentium would do better in more GPU intense game but the 880k would do better in more CPU games. When I play pubg with the system i have now, (amd a8 5500, gtx 1050, 8gb ram) i still get 60 in low areas. when I go into big cities the frame rate drops to about 20-30. I'm thinking a new CPU could fix that as the one I have now is so bad that its bottle necking my gtx 1050.

For low cost, switching to 880k might be a good idea. The flip side is, if it doesnt live up to the expectation, you have to think of switching again or sticking to it.
The good part is, it does match the minimum requirement in terms of speed... http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=33898&game=PlayerUnknowns%20Battlegrounds but looses in cores counts... http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-FX-6300-vs-AMD-Athlon-X4-880K/1555vsm121029 and also does not match the recommended requirement.

So dont expect it to run something exceptional, it might just run on lower settings.
