I have a i5-7600k, after a few months with it, it just cant handle all the games I play, most triple a games run it at 100%, so of course I decided I have to overclock to 2.3 ghz, I want to start out slow with overclocking using Intel(R) Extreme Tuning Utility, how do I go about doing this? Or is the i5-7600k already running at 4.2 ghz?

Solution
any overclock should be done in the bios ideally.go into the bios and increase your cpu multiplier by a couple of increments.do this until the system becomes unstable.then back it off until it is stable.this is the max overclock without tweaking voltages etc.then you will have to bump the multiplier and cpu voltage to start.keep in mind you cant go too high with a stock cooler.on a system like that i would use occt to stress test the oc.

So i go into Bios, crank up the core by lets say 200 mhz at a time, stress test, if its stable i add more mhz until unstable and when its unstable i add more voltage? How much voltage should i add for every 200 mhz?
