So I just recently experienced an extremely weird issue with my AMD Ryzen 5 1500x. I was using the PC as normal and suddenly it completely shuts off. I restart it and everything is fine, but when I opened task manager I noticed there are only 4 CPU usage graphs. This is a 4 core 8 thread chip. Upon further inspection, not only are there only 4 threads, only 2 CPU cores are enabled with SMT. I went into bios made sure SMT was enabled, all cores were enabled as well. Nothing. Cleared CMOS. Still nothing. Anyone have any ideas why system crashed and my quad core chip is operating as a dual core?

The system can suddenly shutdown due to PSU, overheating, malware, errors... to help determine the cause, see if the system properties are configured for automatic restart and disable it following the HP support instructions. That should display a BSOD with the error code to google for... and if it still skips a BSOD it would be a power issue.

If it was a system error a dump file may have been created so use BlueScreenView to find and view it.

Disabled CPU cores may be due to Power Saving Options plan being used or BIOS settings.

To check the BIOS power saving settings, see the motherboard PDF user manual

Run HWiNFO in sensor mode to view system temps, fan speeds, running cores and clock speeds, and post a full image of the sensors report.

I don't mean to skip steps but I have to go to bed soon. There was no BSOD. I was using the computer at the time and it shut off immediately with no warning. System just completely shut off. I used nirsoft blue screen view. There were no crashes. My system power plan is on high performance and my bios power saving is disabled. Heres some info https://postimg.org/gallery/2pyes361y/
