Hello,

This might sound like a stupid question, but is it okay to remove my SD card from my phone and plug it into my computer? It's corrupted and I want to get files off of it and try to put some of them onto a new SD card, or if not then I'll at least have my photos somewhere if not on my phone. I can't just plug my phone with the SD card inside to my computer, since the SD card is so badly corrupted that it causes my phone to reboot after a little while when it's plugged in.

So, will plugging the SD card on it's own into my computer ruin the card or reformat it in a different way? I want to get files off of it but I don't want to lose them completely in the process.

In case it helps, my phone is a Motorola Moto G4, and the SD card is a Kingston Micro SDHC Class 10 32GB. The new SD card is a SanDisk Ultra Micro SDHC UHS-I A1 32GB.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You will do no harm to the SD card if you plug into your PC, just reject all attempts from PC side to "repair" it. If you don't see files, or partitions - you're out of luck. You can try some recovery utilitis in this case, but if this card contain anything very iomportant, you better turn to professionals.

Would I be able to run chkdsk on it to see if that'll fix anything?

EDIT: Something that might help to know is that the SD card was formatted by my phone as internal storage so that it could store apps, and the phone says that it won't work with any other devices.
