High ping through router (wired and wireless)

for more than a week now, I have been experiencing very high ping rates (500-1200ms) on my LAN. After testing connection by unplugging router and connecting directly to DSL modem, the problem is resolved. I have thus come to the conclusion its a problem with the router, i have already reset my router to factory defaults, performed multiple power cycles, and done pretty much everything I can think of besides replacing the router (which will probably happen soon) The router in question is a netgear r6220 and is only a year old. The problem is not intermittent, but following a power cycle of both modem and router the problem will stop for up to about an hour and then begins again. I suspect the router has just gone bad but would like any second opinions of what the problem may be.

no i have had the same isp for over 13 years, and this would probably make the 4th or 5th router that has gone bad in some way during that time.

Get a new modem form the isp and put a good battery back up in and put all available computer related equip on it. It sounds as if you might be suffering the effects of dirty power from the util. The batt bu will keep the brown out and spike level. You should not be going through so many routers.

I already a have both the router and modem on a UPS, and as stated previously, when connecting directly to modem, there is no problem with connection, so there should be no need to replace it.

the modem is a visionnet m405

speed of test is normal, but as you can see the ping is extremely high.

You don't need an UPS; you don't need that much redundancy unless you're in a business.

What router do you have?

Isps have this bad habit of upgrading bandwidth etc. Sounds like that's what's happening (Comcast did the same to me) the fix was easy. Just upgraded the firmware in the router. Had to do this 3x now ony Asus router to compensate for the bandwidth and packet differences.

so I thought the issue was resolved after a talking with my ISP, however this proved not to be the case after a few hours had past. however I found and odd symptom of my problem, it seem that when the connection is under load (ie: during a download) the ping goes down to a level I would normally expect while under load (about 250-350ms)but without a load on the connection the ping skyrockets back to 500-1200ms, this makes no sense to me at all, if anyone has an explanation i would appreciate it.
