Planning a PC build for regular multi-core performance in casual video editing(After Effects, Premiere Pro) and animation(Blender, Toon Boom) and rare gaming(GTA V). I am confused between i5-7400 with Intel HD 630 OR AMD Ryzen 3 1200 with GT 1030(its the best I can afford right now). Forget gaming for the time..

Solution
The i5 is faster but having a GT 1030 would allow you to use cuda acceleration in adobe programs which would likely make the Ryzen 3 option the better one.

Just looked at some benchmarks and i was actually surprised that the 1200 overclocked to 4GHz is a lot faster than the i5

Actually not all Ryzen CPU's can hit 4GHz, you have to be really lucky for that to happen. The core i5 is a better choice. Ryzen 3 is aimed to compete with core i3, but performance wise they are really close.
