I have an Asus Q524UQ laptop with a 2.6 GHz i7-6500U CPU and integrated NVIDIA GeForce 940MX graphics card.

I want to know if it is possible to upgrade my CPU and if so, if anyone has an idea of what motherboard is in my laptop so I can find a compatible CPU.

Kinda depending on my laptop for some intense animation work and gaming (mostly playing Squad at the moment, a very CPU intensive game) since parents won't give back my desktop and this 2.6 GHz ain't getting me the performance I need and want.

Solution
Laptops don't have interchangeable mobos. Gpu min says 770 or 7870 which is oddly a big difference but you are way below both. You're nowhere near 970 or 290 for recommended. You cpu does turbo to 3ghz on both cores but ghz doesn't mean everything. You are below on cpu min as well though. No reason to speculate when you could look at usage but in any case, you need something else to play.

Well god damnit. So then I gotta either a) convince my parents to hand back my desktop or b) find out what motherboard is in this laptop and find it online without a soldered CPU and then buy a new compatible CPU for it.

Think your only option is A, they will likely only have one compatible motherboard which will have soldered processors.

Actually, I know for a fact that the GPU meets the minimum and recommended requirements, its just that the CPU only meets the minimum requirements and not the recommended. I'd like to have a CPU that is 3.0+ GHz.

Unfortunately not gonna happen.

Get the desktop back.

Uuugh! That'll be like trying to convince a nihilist that there's meaning in why we even bother getting out of bed...

Some laptop motherboards cost as much as an entirely new laptop..... :( (They are very proprietary and platform specific, so, it's not like you can easily swap in a better one....space/power constraints, fitting, cooling, etc...)
