Unsure if PSU or GPU is faulty.

A couple of days ago my PC crashed and would not reboot. It would turn on only for the graphics card to light up for a few seconds, and then shut off again, repeating this cycle.

Suspecting it was the psu or mother board battery, I was able to re-boot after disconnecting and reconnecting both.

However the PC froze again half an hour later.

I then stripped the PC putting it back together piece by piece, and realized that everything ran smoothly with the graphics card disconnected, and running off of the integrated graphics.

I have since gotten a refund on the graphics card, however I am still unsure as to whether it is entirely at fault, as it still works after re-installing, only to crash again several hours later.

Could the PSU not be pushing enough power to the graphics card, forcing the PC to freeze?

Will it boot and work fine with integrated graphics? Do you have another GPU laying around that you can try instead of the 970? If so try that. If that also fails then it is your PSU. If it doesn't then the odds aren't looking good for the 970 but there may yet still be some hope.
