Internet disconnects every ten minutes for a few seconds on every machine in my house.

Beginning earlier this week the internet has briefly disconnected for every device in my home, and then after around three seconds it reconnects. Everything is connected via Ethernet cords. As you can imagine this is a big issue while playing games and/or streaming on twitch. I unplugged and shut off my router and modem at the same time for around 2 minutes as I've heard that has been a common fix, but this didn't change anything.

In Overwatch this puts me out of the game for around 30 seconds from the time the "disconnected" screen shows up after a few seconds of strange interactions and then reloads the game. In Rocket League it takes about five seconds from when a disconnect symbol appears to when my game catches up. OBS takes about 30 seconds to figure out what's going on before reconnecting to twitch. This is completely unacceptable, and prevents me from doing any sort of live-streaming, or doing any competitive gaming.

If anyone has any other suggestions I'd be greatful to hear them. Using an Asus router and a modem given from Frontier (My provider). We haven't had an issue like this before this week.

You are going to have to watch the LEDs on the router and modem to see what is happening. Is the modem disconnecting? Is the router power cycling? Something basic in your network hardware seems to have a problem and there isn't enough info.

Hey! Thanks for the fast reply - What should I be looking for? The modem and routers are both in separate rooms on the other side of my home, and so it would be very difficult to watch for a light changing every ten minutes, especially when it's already got multiple blinking lights.

In the time I spent watching the modem I didn't see any lights change. As for WiFi, All wireless clients also disconnect.

If wired and wireless all disconnect, then the common point is your router. It could be overheating, it could be the power transformer. But the router is the only common point for wired and wireless disconnecting. What do the LEDs on the router do when everything disconnects?

I hooked up my PC directly to our modem to see if it was being caused there, and it still disconnected every ten minutes. I.E. our usual setup of "Internet-->Modem-->Router-->All PCs/wireless devices" was broken and "Internet-->Modem-->My PC" still had the issue. So I can count the router out of the immediate cause. I'll probably see if Frontier can send us a new modem.

If you can swap the modem, that would be a good step.
Very odd for you to lose connection but get it back so fast.
Normally, if the modem cycled or lost network connection to the provider, it would take much longer to recover.
There's no harm in contacting support. They can look at the modem and get some info on what might be going on.

We called support (Frontier) and they didn't see anything wrong with our setup (go figure)... if there's another thing you can think of that I can test before seeing about a new router, I would love to hear it. It's been going on for almost a month now.
