Recently while playing games my pc randomly shutdown and then would not reboot.

After trying to find out what was wrong i then found out the pc can boot without the gfx card plugged in.

I've now tried 2 different psu in case they couldn't deliver power anymore but same results.

Would the problem be the mobo or the gfx card and what are the signs of each?

Components:
Mobo - msi z97 gaming
Gfx - msi gtx 970
Psu - corsair cx750m

Solution
The GPU is probably bad but you should also make sure that this issue hasn't anything to do with the motherboard's PCIe slots. So try plugging the GPU into another PCIe slot and finally test your GPU into another system. Only then you can be 100% certain that it's the GPU and not the motherboard or something else in your system, responsible for this issue. Good luck.

If it cannot boot unless you remove the gpu, then it's definitely your gpu at fault. Make sure your gpu fans are clean of dust, and check its thermal paste like you would on a cpu. Depending on the graphics card, you may need to watch a youtube video for teardown instructions.

Ok thanks for the feedback I'll look into that right away!

After taking apart the card and peering inside it appears just left of the gpu unit itself there's been a blown transistor, looks like it's the end of the road for this card.

Thanks for the help.
