Hello to everyone,
I would like to ask for assistance regarding a rather odd and presumably driver software related issue. I had been having trouble with my MSI R9 290 and consequently had been messing around with different driver configurations in an attempt to fix it. At one point I decided to install the old Catalyst drivers in a fairly desperate moment. This was not a long term fix either and it turns out that cleaning my PCIE ports seems to have fixed the first set of problems I was experiencing.
However, I have a new problem. Ever since I installed Crimson drivers over the old Catalyst ones, I have had a strange issue with Windows startup. A few artifacts come up after logging in and the system crashes - the stated error has something to do with the amdkmdag file. What makes this very curious is that this occurs literally as soon as I restart the computer after the first boot with the new drivers installed. I have used a combination of AMD's own cleanup utility, DDU, and DriverFusion, and performed the Crimson driver install on top of that, and yet the issue persists. I am suspicious that there is some remnant of the Catalyst drivers that I have not yet been able to get rid of which is causing this, as I had no issues like this until I had installed the Catalyst drivers. The card otherwise works fine - there are no problems in games or anything else, provided the system gets past startup and recovers. I did make a regedit to this key on another thread's suggestion, setting the values therein to 0: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\Atierecord. This seemingly at least let me get past system startup, but I would really prefer to not have to force my system to recover every single time I boot.
Any solutions or utilities specifically targeted at older Catalyst drivers (I think it was a late 14 driver) would be appreciated.
P.S. I am running Windows 7 64-bit.
