My laptop's internal wireless chip is busted (Extremely limited range, like router must within 3 foot range foot) and until I get a usb wifi adapter, I was thinking of using my phone to connect to the wifi.

When I activate mobile hotspot onto my phone, and by putting it right next to my laptop, I can obtain a wifi signal and be able to access the internet. However, my phone is using mobile data to do so. I was wondering if it is possible (and if so, how) that I can have the wifi hotspot up on my phone so my laptop can connect to it, but the phone is still connected to the wifi, using that to give my laptop a wifi connection, instead of mobile data.

I would be fine using an Ethernet cable at home during, but I am not able to do so when I am at college. I already tried usb and Bluetooth tethering.

All I know is when you tether your laptop to a hotspot you're always going to use data from your carrier.

Typically, setting up a hotspot is done on the phone and usually has a default password set which can be changed. Than you get on the laptop and find the name of the device (Ex. Parth's iPhone) than type in the password and bam.

I wouldn't recommend this, unless you have 20GB Data or unlimited.
