Approximate Purchase Date: As soon as we make the builds (this day)

Budget Range: 2 builds, 3 monitors, upgrade on 1 pc ~ €5500 ALL (10% up/down)

System Usage from Most to Least Important: working in Autodesk 3ds max, Photoshop, AutoCad, etc. (3D Modeling and Rendering)

Are you buying a monitor: Yes (3 monitors), 24" FHD and it has to be Dell

Do you need to buy OS: No

Country: I live in Bosnia and Herzegovina
Preferred Website(s) for Parts: All members of European Union (maybe Germany sites..)

Parts Preferences: Bestbuy
Overclocking: Maybe

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe

Additional Comments: We need 2 rendering/3dModeling machines and 3 monitors. We already have 3 monitors Dell 24" P2415Q 4K, but now we want monitors which look nearly like these (Dell 24") but with FHD resolution, not 4K.
Second thing we need is to upgrade one PC, which is used to work only in AutoCad, Tower, Archicad etc. For this PC we need a new Case, PSU and SSD. Here are specs:

Intel Core i5 6400 @ 2.70GHz
Gigabyte Technology Co. Ltd. H110M-S2-CF (U3E1)
8,00GB Single-Channel DDR4-2132 (1066 MHz) G.Skill F4-2400C15-8GVR 8.00GB
Intel HD Graphics 530 (Gigabyte)
Zotac gtx1060 3GB
465GB MB0500GC EHE SCSI Disk Device (SATA)

On all PC-s will be Windows 7.
Cases for rendering machines we are using now are TT Urban T81, so this time we only need cases same sized, it has not to be ThermalTake... But for the one PC we are upgrading, we can use normal case, not such big one.

All of this have to be about €5500. Is this possible? (bestbuy for this money)

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Here is an example build of 3 machines which we have now:

Intel Core i7 5820K @ 3.30GHz
ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. X99-DELUXE (SOCKET 2011)
32GB Corsair DDR4-2133 (1066 MHz) CMK16GX4M2B3000C15 XMP
2 X 4095MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 (Gigabyte)
1000W Coller Master M2 Silent PRO
Corsair water cooling
Thermaltake Urban T81
2794GB Western Digital WDC WD30EFRX-68EUZN0 (5400RPM)
465GB Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500G
DELL P2415Q 4K

For new builds we could go on AMD Ryzen 7 and gtx1070, it has not to be Intel!!!

PS: More help... Here is an example configuration we made:

2x
--------------------------------------------------
AMD Ryzen 7 1700
ASRock x370 Killer SLI
32GB G.Skill Ripjaws V DDR4 3200MHz
Zotac GTX 1070 AMP! Edition 8GB DDR5
be quiet! 750W Power Zone
Fractal Celsius S24, s1151/2011/AM4
Fractal Define C
Seagate FireCuda 1TB //ABOUT 1TB IS ENOUGH
Samsung 960EVO 250GB, NVMe

3x
-------------------------------------------------
DELL P2417H FHD (1920x1080@60Hz)

AND
-------------------------------------------------
for the PC that needs upgrade:
PSU: Corsair VS550 PSU, 550W
Case: Fractal Focus G
SSD: SSD 240GB SanDisk SSD Plus

These parts are quite expensive in our country, that is why we are buying in EU. We think that we can get better combo that costs less.

Thank you for that information. Then, we are forced to use Win 10. That should not be a big problem.

When I saw a Threadripper I was like Wooow :O. We couldn't even get an Ryzen 7 1800, now we got Threadripper.
Than... I saw that I made a big mistake. The real limit is 5400-5500$. I were in hurry then I made a mistake while changing values from BAM to EUR. So, please accept my apologie. I'm sorry.
So, the real limit is 5400-5500€. I'll edit my first post.
Btw, this build is great. Thank you very much!

I did some changes to the 2 main systems:

TR swapped to Ryzen 7 1700x with an aircooler for added reliability
GTX 1070 swapped to GTX 1080
Bigger SSD and a higher quality HDD for added reliability

The 12 core Threadripper could be fitted in the budget but either the monitors would have to be swapped for the cheaper: https://de.pcpartpicker.com/product/Z6RFf7/dell-monitor-e2316h
Or the GTX 1070/1080s would have to be swapped for GTX 1060 6gbs.

I made 2 builds on your parts. It was great when I saw that you put TR in first build. So, I made 2 build, one better and one a bit worse xD.
I said that we suggest Full Tower, so I took Corsair for these 2 PCs and Mid Tower, also Corsair, for the third PC which needs upgrade.

I took WD blue with 1TB, it's becouse we only temporary save our files and work on it. It will be saved on NAS. So, we don't need more than 1TB.
Do you have any other suggestions on this build? Will it work? Is everything OK?
This build is only modification of Finstars build, so main parts are his... And thank you!

PS: Total price is about 5460€ ...

What about this build that I posted?
We have to place order until Monday... We can't wait coffee lake...

Looking at it later, possibly get 4 8gb sticks of ram instead of 2 16gb for the Threadripper build since TR cpus have 2 memory controllers
Looks good otherwise.

I wouldnt go socket x99 at all personally , I'd take ryzen over that without a shadow of a doubt.

& in all honesty the TR is probably overkill , a 1700 will do all you can ask of it.
The only issue is getting 32gb ram running at anything past 2400mhz on the ryzen chipset , you absolutely 100% need Samsung b-die to even stand a chance

Regarding the upgrade of the i5 6400, just ditch the vs550 PSU , absolutely not something I'd want in a desktop that's likely to run long hours.

Look at the CX 450/450m/550/550m models with the silver & black labels
They're far better than the budget vs series for literally €10-15 more (also come with a 5 year warranty)

@Finstar Thank you man, for everything!
@madmat30 Thank you for that information, I didn't know this fact about RAM. Do you suggest to buy 2400MHz RAM, or there are some manufacturers that 100% use Samsungs B-die? How important is RAM frequency for rendering? Will I feel the difference?
The reason I would try TR is because we'll probably upgrade that PC in few months with new graphic card, maybe some professional cards like Nvidia Quadro and with more ram and put this GTX1070 in one of our currently PC-s... It's all because we need a good rendering machine. If that is not a good idea, I would like to hear your opinion about that. For now, we don't need such machine, but when we got more job soon, we'll need it.
Maybe it's better to buy now 2 PC-s with 1700/1700x/1800 and leave TR for now, to keep money in pocket. And when we really need such machine, to buy it later.
We have now 3 PC-s with i7 5820k/2xGTX970 4GB (full configuration few posts above) and they do their job really, really good for 2 years... But now, we need 2 more PC-s which will do the same work.
I appreciate every suggestion!!!
PS: for the PSU, we didn't take VS550, Finstar suggested CSM 550W 80+ Gold

And please... Sorry for my bad english

For me personally the ram speeds dont make enough difference to make spending extra or worrying worthwhile.
2666mhz is the sweetspot imo on ryzen & theres a good chance of hitting that no issue with 32gb ram.

I would be looking at patriot viper elite, partriot viper 4,crucial ballistix elite 3000/3200 or the gskill flare x to be certain.
Otherwise you may be stuck at 2400 ((which in itself is not really a massive issue imo because I personally think the ram speed issue has been blown out of all proportion.)

Vs the 5820k ( assuming stock speeds) ,single core about the same, multi threaded performance the 1700 just crushes it completely, you're talking maybe 50-60% more performance in that respect if you're running multiple instances of rendering etc.

Nothing wrong with another x99 build if it weren't a completely outdated socket now,I would have waited for the 6c/12t coffee lakes if you had the time to do so but if not a ryzen 1700 isnt going to disappoint in any way at all.

Thanks for help!
Ok, I get it now... I will think about RAM-s.
Let's think about processors, is it better for rendering (we work a lot in 3DS Max, interior design) to give money for better graphic card or leave it on CPU?
I read few month ago that the 1080 is only few percentage better than 1070 in rendering job. What about to take ryzen 7 1700/1800x with gtx1080? If a better card is better for rendering, I would take Ryzen 7 1700 in this PC rather than the Threadripper and that money give to better cards... But which are better cards (not professional ones)? Is this card that Finstar suggested enogh?
This is what I'm worried about... Do I need better CPU or GPU, to give more money on first, or second thing...

The ryzen offers a massive amount of theoretical headroom.

You could probably do 2 instances of CPU rendering & one on GPU simultaneously & still notice no system slowdown , if anything storage would be bottlenecking not anything else.
I think it's depends on your absolute use at anyone time.

I'm not using my 1700 in any official professional capacity.

Background rendering a 4k video while playing BF1 multiplayer I managed 42% virtual cpu usage maximum.

To put into context a 4c/8t kaby lake i7 can peg at 100% just playing BF1.
