Anyone know a step by step solution on how to get RAM speed from standard 1600mhz to 1866mhz in gigabyte BIOS, changing the frequency and voltage.

1. The RAM i have supports the change
2. The motherboard also supports up to 1866mhz
3. BIOS is up to date

Iv'e seen where the frequency can be changed where it shows a section with A and B and also where the XMP Profile can be changed. Not 100% sure on Voltage.

Motherboard:GIGABYTE GA-970A-D3P
Core: AMD FX-8320
RAM: 16gb G.Skills Ripjaws

It is so much easier for folks to answer ya question if the make and model number of parts involved are provided.

But assuming this is an Intel build ...

1. Open or download MoBo Manual
2. Go to the section covering BIOS XMP setting
3. Enable XMP, everything else will be done automatically

* assuming of course RAM has XMP settings on the SPD and MoBo has support for XMP

Yeah sorry forgot to mention those. Just leaving out the rest of the RAM info as i don't want a debate on what iv'e bought and what i should have bought. On that previous thread iv'e already mentioned that iv'e done my research on RAMs and there are no issues with the one i've chosen :)

OK, then I hope the above answer gets you going where ya need to be.

1. CPUz will show ya ya SPD settings

2. MoBo manual will tell ya if board supports XMP and where in BIOS ya can enable it.

I tried enabling XMP Profile 1 and computer didn't boot. Iv'e tried this before.

CPU-Z shows
XMP-2134 at frequency 1067mhz
XMP-2132 at frequency 1066mhz

so no XMP-1866 :(

but yeah the information is great so far thanks.
Anyway to set it up using the CPU-Z you've provided?

1. OK, so we know that the RAM has XMP Options for 2133. What JEDEC profiles does it support ? 1866 ? Can you take a screenshot of the CPUz window and post / link to imugr ?

2. I see now that this is not an Intel board that provides "Support for Extreme Memory Profile (XMP) memory modules"

3. Is this an early (Version 1.x) or late stepping board (Version 2.x)
-The version 2.x specs say that it provides support for DDR3 2000(O.C.)/1866/1600/1333/1066 MHz memory modules (See Note 2)
-The version 2.x specs say that it provides support for DDR3 2000(O.C.)/1866/1600/1333/1066 MHz memory modules

So 1866 should be among the options.

4. The manual should be found here:

http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_ga-970a-d3p_v.2.x_e.pdf

On page 21 pick disabled

Extreme Memory Profile (X.M.P.) (Note 2)
Allows the BIOS to read the SPD data on XMP memory module(s) to enhance memory performance when enabled.
Disabled Disables this function. (Default)

I expect the 1866 option will appear 2 lines down on "Memory Frequency (MHz)"... select 1866. hard to be sure as Im not sitting at screen

It would appear that your RAM does not have speed / timing settings on the SPD. That leaves only manual options. The manual explains how to do this but I'd suggest visiting the RAM support web site forums, giving your specs and asking for suggested settings for something between 1600 and 2133

So ivé searched the enitre interweb and no one has a manual setting for the specific of my motherboard. There are talks about tweaking voltage as you move up in frequency but no exact info on going from 1600mhz to 1866mhz
