Noctua NF F12 fan vs Cougar Vortex

Solution
You'll find the top 20 or so fans ranked by performance / noise ration about half way down the page here

We use these:

120mm - https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835709032

Taking the Noctua fans off a Noctua cooler and replacing them w Phanteks drops temps by 6C at the same rpm

Published specs are mostly "made up" but even if ya get the roight numbers, good reading here:

Thank you, I had actually totally forgotten about phanteks

I buy them by the dozen... usually when newegg has em for $10 each

I have (16) 140mm in my box and they are a real PITA in one respect. I have oft tried to turn the system on when it was already running. You can not tell if the system is on or off when in sleep mode. You can't hear anything when running stress tests. Set up is as follows:

CPU_1 => Pump 1
CPU_2 => Pump 1

CHA_1 =>Fan Hub 1 => (6) Fans on 420mm radiator
CHA_2 =>Fan Hub 2 => (4) Fans on 280mm radiator
CHA_3 =>Fan Hub 3 => (6) Case Fans

The case fans have a range of 325 rpm to 1250 rpm and shut off if curve says < 350
The rad fans have a range of 325 rpm to 1250 rpm and shut off if curve says < 400
All fans have a short ramp-up speed and a slow ramp-down speed. Rad fans ramp-down over about a 90 seconds so as to evacuate all the latent heat in the coolant after demand stops.

The other thing, great support and customer service ... I had one fan that was troublesome ... rattled a bit but only when installed horizontally. I called and they sent me 2 new ones ... didn't want the old one back. My son installed it on back of his HD cage to blow air between the GFX cards, makes no noise in vertical position.

I was with ya despite the fugly color scheme ... but things have changed. The $90 Noctua NH-D15 is no longer the king of the hill as it gets equaled or beat by the $45 Scythe Fuma and $37 Mugen Max

And when ya take the Noctua Fans off a Noctua Cooler and temps drop by a whopping 6C, using the same size fan at the same rpm, then ya gotta give up the belt.

I do think Noctua has a comeback in the works tho.

Noctua announced a next generation fan with a new reinforced liquid crystal polymer which is much more rigid (used in body armor). This allows much tighter tolerances (0.5mm tip clearance) and allows less blowby which should make the fan much more efficient.

Announced in June, surprised we haven't seen them yet,
