The Q6600 having trouble paired with the GTX 1050

I built a new PC 3 months ago. Here are the specification -

CPU - Q6600 Quad Core LGA 775 Processor @2.4ghz

RAM - 4 GB DDR3 RAM (IDK the speed accurately)

GPU - ZOTAC GTX 1050 2GB DDR5 Card

Motherboard - Not quite sure but some Zebronics Motherboard

So, here comes the issue the CPU is at 60 degree Celsius as just at the startup and while playing games, for instance while playing GTA V the temps go all mad as MSI Afterburner says 90-98 degree Celsius (now that's hot) or is it.. so I just re applied the thermal paste, but for no good. Then yesterday I just opened the Cabinet's side panel and checked every connection that goes into the motherboard (mainly the CPU fan and the PSU) then also reset all the settings to the default optimal settings in the BIOS menu. Booted up the PC, Fired up GTA V along with MSI Afterburner, this time only the temps were a little bit better, 80-85 and after some time to 90 degrees again. I don't know what basically the problem is, just because of this temperature my CPU is underperforming i.e. it's always at 100% usage while gaming but the GPU is just at under 50% or jumping between 35-75% usage constantly. Surely, underutilized. I know that a bottleneck is expected but it is surely performing worse then expected, just because of the temperatures.

Please help!!

Is it the CPU fan (by the way it is the same one I was using with the dual core LGA775 CPU) OR is it just the thermal paste (which I don't think is an possibility but still maybe!!). OR some other issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :D

okay, by the looks of it you can't change any bios settings for OC, or voltage. Although you said it's a zebronics motherboard, you would need to get the exact model to be sure, but i'd say it doesn't have the settings I was referring to for changing the vcore. You're outta luck there, I'm afraid.
MSI Afterburner is a GPU monitoring tool (so its telling you the temperature of the nvidia 1050).
Get "Real Temp" to see CPU temperatures.

Btw, the 1050 is a bit too hot as well.
If your CPU was running at 80C it would be dead, the Q6600 has a max temp:

Scale 3: Quad
Q9x50: Tcase Max 71c, Stepping E0, TDP 95W, Idle 16W
Q9x50: Tcase Max 71c, Stepping C1, TDP 95W, Idle 16W
Q9400: Tcase Max 71c, Stepping R0, TDP 95W, Idle 16W
Q9300: Tcase Max 71c, Stepping M1, TDP 95W, Idle 16W
Q8x00: Tcase Max 71c, Stepping R0, TDP 95W, Idle 16W
Q8200: Tcase Max 71c, Stepping M1, TDP 95W, Idle 16W
Q6x00: Tcase Max 71c, Stepping G0, TDP 95W, Idle 16W<--Q6600 GO

-Tcase/Tjunction-
--70--/--75--75--75--75-- Hot
--65--/--70--70--70--70-- Warm
--60--/--65--65--65--65--Safe <--
--25--/--30--30--30--30-- Cool

what CPU cooler are you using? If it was one being used on a dual core, chances are it's gonna fall way short on a q6600. They weren't particularly hot chips specially at stock, but still twice as many cores, so more heat. You may need a new cooler. If the temps are as you say, and at 60c at idle. That is really high. My Q6600 OC to 3ghz idled at 32-34.

Yes, the Q6600 is bottlenecking, but your right somewhat in that it could be partly down to thermal throttling on the CPU from high temps.

When you put the cooler on the you Q6600, did you change thermal paste? That would be advisable to do.

love this post. Back in the day on my Q6600 I've read that exact thread/post on various websites, and it became a kind of bible reference point for me! :) Them were the days :)

I've also used Real Temp and Prime95 to test this thing out when I re-applied the thermal paste, but shockingly the results were same!!
The thing here is you are saying "at that much temperature it should've been dead" Now I'm getting real confused bro.

The cooler I'm using is not even an intel stock cooler. IDK it's more like a third party cheap kinda cooler, that's why I also pointed out that it may be the reason and yeah it's the same one I was using with the dual core!! your point of partly throttled CPU cores makes sense, if that's what you said. and yup I reapplied the thermal compound when I came to know about those freakin high temps.

okay, based on what you said, it's time for a new cooler. If it was the one that came with the dual core, it won't be able to cool the Q6600 sufficiently.

Thank You very much, I'll update you guys as soon as I get my hands on a new CPU Cooler (and will select the best answer)

I've bought a new cooler (Intel Stock CPU cooler), the previous one was a third party cooler (unknown). but now the problem is still the same temps, like idealizing at 65-70 degrees again, now the question is, Is my CPU faulty as the heat issue should've been resolved by the new fan which had pre-applied thermal paste, I'm pretty sure that it can't be the case as Intel makes perfect hardware (It should at least cool an Q6600) and NO question on thermal paste as it was pre applied!!, So what is that something to do with my BIOS settings or what Please help :/

have you changed the core voltage, or do you have Auto OC settings on in the bios. The only thing it could be is that your vcore voltage is set, and is really high. That will produce the heat. Try manually setting the vcore to 1.3 and see if that works. 1.3 would be considered a reasonable voltage for that CPU even if OC'ing. So by manually changing it form auto (which has the effect of often overvolting) then it may bring the temps down.

See how you get on with that.

I can't totally get what the BIOS have to display, many of the options are faded out. Here you can check out some of the screenshots and tell me what that is.
