Hi guys,

I have to build a gaming PC for a friend of mine, and his budget is around 1200-1300 dollars MAX.
I've but together the following based on a build I did myself - however, my own build was a bit more high-end.

Please, I would appreciate your comments on the component choices.

I picked a quite large PSU for expansion purposes.

Best regards.

The build looks good, although I'd recommend a bigger SSD (240+). If your friend can wait Intel Coffeelake is out in a week and would be worth it to see how well it games and multitasks (streaming).

There is also AMD Ryzen which is using the same socket (AM4) until 2020 so it is good for CPU upgrades.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 1600 3.2GHz 6-Core Processor ($195.89 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: ASRock - AB350 Pro4 ATX AM4 Motherboard ($73.98 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-3200 Memory ($90.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Western Digital - Blue 250GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive ($89.88 @ OutletPC)...

The SSD is about $55 so with this build it will be under budget. I think getting him up to a 1070, especially with a i5-7600k, would make a huge difference. I switched the case to something a little cheaper that way he gets more performance. I actually use this case, and I love it. But there are plenty of cases for under $90 that he can pick from, unless he picked out that one already. The PSU is not a bad idea, everyone plans on upgrading after all. This PSU will give him room to upgrade whilst saving some cash. i'm kind of a EVGA fan boi though xD

Did you want that motherboard to match the GPU?

Hi Nick,
Thanks for your input! Great point in having at least 1070 GPU with the i5-7600k CPU.
No, he havent picked a specific case yet, just picked the Corsair since I got that one myself and it is very nice to build in.

By match you mean color theme? :)

Hi WildCard,
Thanks for your input. Interesting perspective with the AMD CPU.

Will the CPU cooler I picked (Cooler Master - Hyper 212 EVO 82.9) fit in your suggested case?

Hi ohenryy,
Nice suggestion! The price range will work if I can find a cheap, legal copy of Windows. Does the CPU cooler I picked (Cooler Master Hyper Evo) fit in your suggested case?

You would not need a Hyper 212 evo since the stock cooler that comes with the 1600 is already about as good as the hyper 212. It's probably worth it to also wait for the GTX 1070 ti which is said to release 26th of this month for $399.

Hi Finstar,
Aah, I didn't realise that, thanks for saying. I've heard that the stock cooler isn't that good and a bit noisy?
Aha, sounds great with the TI version of the GTX 1070 - could be worth the waiting!

Yes, sorry. The GpU and motherboard were white if I remember correctly. So if that's the case, I see why you went a little more expensive on the motherboard.

I wish I had friends that would let me build them a computer

Hehe, I build my own gaming PC (1st build ever!) this spring and then I basically forced him into buying a new gaming PC aswell, so we can play together. ;-) And voila - I build it! ;-)
