Vega 64 Upgrade or Keep old R9 390's

I'm thinking about upgrading to a Vega 64 (only 1). I currently have 2x XFX R9 390's, though. My performance isn't lagging in any games or VR. I'm just afraid of my old hardware losing software support. My 390's support DX 11, but not 12 and they get particularly toasty under load (and have no water block compatibility). I want to make sure I get the best out of my hardware.

Do you think a single new Vega 64 will outperform 2 old R9 390's?

Thank you,
Harrison

Yep youre at the point I was at.

Dump it and get a single card. Its not worth all the fiddling and other junk you need to do to get it to work right.

Depends if your game supports crossfire. Vega will probably be a bit slower when scaling works well, far ahead when it doesn't work well or at all. One card is always better than two :)

That being said, I'd wait if I were you. Your cards support most of DX12 and, depending on the game, you won't see benefits.

Your cards do support DX12 actually. However as a former crossfire user, it sucks. Tons of power, only half the games support it. I had 2 R9 280's in Crossfire, sold them for an RX 480 that ran cooler, used half the power, and was only a little bit slower. But even in the games it was "slower" it seemed to run better and smoother.

One card is always better than two. If you can move those 2 cards for a good price, do it and get the Vega.

I have a Vega 64 liquid cooled, love it.

Good point. I was playing some Benchmark of The Singularity and both of my gpu's max out. The game runs great even on ultra settings (without post processing).

When I enable DX 12 in games it seems to run worse, atleast. I can setup xfire profiles in my Radeon settings that helps out. I know there aren't a ton of games that are xfire compatible, that's kinda why I'm looking to scale up/down/equal to the Vega

I own many games and only a handful have a xfire profile.

I will say one thing in defense of crossfire: and that's that while in VR I drop 0 frames. I use to drop minimal frames, but with a second card I miss none and can fully crank VR settings.

AMD is moving so fast right now. I just hope they don't release another card next month that will dust the vega 64. Thanks for the feedback. I'll probably pickup the water cooled Radeon 64 within the month.
