So recently I had my HTC Vive die on me. As part of my troubleshooting I uninstalled the USB drivers for the Vive so as to have them reinstall when reconnected. Now after getting a new Vive, the PC will not install the USB drivers for the Vive when connected.

I know it is not the Vive and I am pretty sure the issue is due to uninstalling the drivers as i have it working on another computer where I did not uninstall the drivers.

When I uninstalled the drivers I was prompted to confirm the removal of the device along with a checkbox asking if i wanted to "delete driver software for this device". I ticked that box.

I have tried updating mobo firmware, installing windows updates with the convenience rollup, reinstalling all Vive related software and reinstalling SteamVR. However none of these things worked.

Mobo is a Gigabyte Z170-HD3.

[OS = Windows 7]

[Update to reinsert lost sentences].

First use Task Manager > Services tab to compare both systems. See what is running and what dependencies exist. Especially with respect to any USB or Vive related entries.

You may need to change something from manual start to automatic start...

Failing that.....

Can you copy the applicable USB drivers from the still working computer back to the non-working computer?

Or use "driverquery" from the command prompt (Powershell) to compare both systems. See what differences exist with respect to USB and/or Vive.

Missing listings, different date/time stamps, etc..

(Do not have a Vive so unable to offer some comparison listing. Someone else may be able to do so.)

Could be a long list depending...

Where are you getting the HTC Vive drivers from?

Do you have any other problems related to USB devices?

Do you have the User Guide/Manual for your Vive?

You should double check your installation and configuration. There may be some original setting (when working) that has been forgotten and overlooked.

Came across the following installation guide as well?

Also found this link:

Maybe using a PC has now become moot....

Perhaps you didn't understand the situation. I had a Vive that had a hardware malfunction. It was installed and working with default settings on two computers prior to that.

During troubleshooting I tried to reinstall the USB drivers however i selected an option that i beleive has rendered my OS unable to install new device drivers.

The Vive was replaced with a brand new one and is working with the computer i was not troubleshooting with, so i am certain that the issue is due to something i did wrong while troubleshooting.

It must be something wrong with the USB driver/OS.

Could be a long list depending on the computers involved. Hopefully you will be able to narrow down the search results to make the comparison easier.

Totally forgot I had this posted, I ended up biting the bullet and reinstalled windows (which worked). I compared the drivers from both computers using tortoise SVNs' diff and found a few discrepancies, the only one related to the Vive was one called dokan.sys reinstalling this did not solve my problems.
