Need help adding + buying more ram for my PC

here's some useful informationn

mobo: asrock z77 extreme 6
current ram: 2x 4GB G.Skill Ripjaws-X F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL 1600MHX DDR3

Basically while gaming I'm starting to get closer and closer to that 8gb mark and I'm having to start closing background apps to free up some ram for the game.

I only plan on keeping this PC for another 12-18 months so i just need a bit of extra ram to last me that long without any issues.

Also will it be better to add 1 big gb stick or 2 smaller gb sticks?

Any recommendations will be great I'm not looking for anything fancy (just make sure it will at least keep up with my current ram)

No memory manufacturer will guarantee such a combination will work or how it will work if it does. You may need to run at a slower clock speed, relaxed timings, or increased DRAM voltage in an attempt to get it to work.

I thought you could match different ram sticks together as long as they had the same speeds?

Do you think the best thing for me to do it just sell my current ram and buy second hand 2x8gb sticks off ebay (same model/make)?
