Do not connect it to the router that has internet access is fool proof way to prevent any access. The other method is to remove the gateway ip or set it to something other than your router in the camera and dvr. The gateway is the ip they used to get out of the LAN. If the end device do not know how to get out they can only talk to other lan devices.

What bill001g said. VPN. Thats what I use to get to my cameras when I am away from home. Also if you have an advanced router you can block your cameras from accessing the internet. This will stop them from doing back door communications.
