HI all,

I've had this machine for quite some time and it's long overdue an upgrade. I wouldn't consider myself a serious gamer, but will play an FPS or an RPG here and there.

The specs:

  • CPU: Intel i5 2500k
PSU: OCZ OCZ600MXSP-UK ModXStream Pro 600W ATX
    GPU: Gefore GTX 670
    RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600 Mhz
    Motherboard: Gigabyte XKT-1155 Z68AP-D3
    SSD: 256GB
    HDD: 500gb

I am looking into getting a new Graphics Card and a new monitor.

Graphics card I am looking into are either the AMD 580 8GB or Nvidia 1060 6GB (still trying to find out which is better).

Haven't really picked out a specific monitor yet, but I would prefer the following features:

  • 27 Inches
    1080p display
    IPS/TN (depends on price)
    144hz
Freesync/Gsync (depending on which GFX I choose)

Price range for the GFX would be £200-£300 and the same for the monitor.

Will I get any bottleneck or any other issues?

Solution
It's not a specific issue. They're just faulty panels they just rma. If you can't find anything on google or retail site's reviews, then it shows it's not as much of an issue as people are making it. Most people who post reviews are doing it to complain.

It's been a terrible time to buy gpus for awhile and it'll continue because of mining.

I would go with the 580 just because of the extra VRAM. But if your a Nvidia fan then the 1060 is still a great 1080P option.

TN panels have bad viewing angles though. It is 144Hz Freesync, 1080P and 27inches.

This is the best I can do with the green side. It's TN, 1MS response 144Hz 1080P

Hey, thanks for the quick reply, appreciate your help.

Personally I was leaning more towards the 580 card simply because it of a cheaper freesync monitor.
The monitor being a TN panel shouldn't be an issue as I look at the screen head-on rather than from an angle. My only concern is that the colours on an IPS are better and as I watch a lot of shows and Youtube, will it make much of a difference?

I think I've changed my mind. I've realised 27 inch monitor will be too big, plus from what I've read 1080p isn't the best with 27 inch monitor. I think I'll go with a 24 Inch. I believe there's a same variant of that monitor above but at 24 Inch. Maybe if I can include IPS into it will it be around the same price (260.00)?

There are no 1080p ips 144hz monitors. You will find va though which I'd suggest over ips anyways. https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/gZkwrH/samsung-lc24fg73-235-1920x1080-144hz-monitor-lc24fg73fquxen

You should avoid those blanket statements comparing panel types. Because of the improvements and variations in panel tech, there is a lot of overlapping in monitor characteristics. You can find tn rivaling ips in color and ips and va that are faster than tn. Pls shouldn't be mentioned as a different panel type. Some people want to make a big deal of ips derivatives but why not talk about the differences of ahva, s-ips, e-ips, ah-ips, etc.

Damn, just seen some videos of that monitor, what a beauty and at a great price, but there must be some drawbacks?

It's not available in the US yet so I can't have one? Not a drawback for you I guess. It's still rather new and I haven't seen any pro reviews yet but it is just the updated model of the cfg70; fixing issues it had. Some people are reporting the same qc issues as with the cgf70. The freesync range is 70-144hz via dp or 62-119hz via hdmi but it supports lfc. Small stuff really. I'm just glad va is becoming more widespread and faster. People want to say it's a middle ground of ips and tn (or just completely ignore its existence) but I'd say nothing beats it except oled.

Any links to those issues, not that I don't believe you, just want to read more into it before purchasing it.

Also, these 580 8gb are very difficult to come by, out of stock everywhere!!!
