Hi ,
so recently my computer has been acting weirdly. initially, when i boot my computer up, it shows the error: disk read error occurred, press ctrl + alt + del to restart. When I restart the computer, it boots normally afterwards. However as days pass, this problem persists even after multiple restarts and today it seems to have died completely. I tried to install Win 10 from my external hard drive, but in the setup, none of my hard drives are showing. (I connected my HDD and SSD to the sata0 and sata1 ports) They do not show up in BIOS either. Anyone has any advice to this problem? I am thinking of replacing the sata cables as I think they may be faulty. Thanks!

Solution
You need to go into the BIOS/UEFI. To do that you need to press a certain button right after your computer turns on. (There is no standard button for this so you'll have to check your owners manual for the motherboard/PC. Alternatively may see it on the post screen. Look in the lower corners)
Check your SATA mode. Make sure that is correct. (Some types of drives will not show up in the BIOS if the SATA mode is not set correctly.)
Also, DO try different cables first but..
If neither of those work it sounds like a SATA controller on the motherboard might be bad.
