What is causing lag spikes in any online game

Hell guys. I am having a weird issue. I just came back from a holiday (7 days). I had some hours to spare so i decided to play Counter strike GO, I am no newbie with nearly 3k hours played, wanted to do some tryharding but as I started playing weird lag spikes occur ever few seconds. It feels like there is some data lost in the process because for expample when I am moving forward sometimes it just freeze and move me like 0,5s back in time. It's really annoying so I was trying to find where the problem is, first I tried different PC and different game with same results. So it must be internet connection issue. I was monitoring ping for few minutes using cmd (ping google.com -t) with 3-20 ms latency (even tried to play a watch second monitor with command prompt but there is no connection between latency and these lagspikes because ping was the same when the lag spikes were annoying me). Download/Upload speed is solid as it used to be and packet loss stays at 0%. It is obvious that ISP must have done something during my days off but it is hard for me to locate the issue so I can adress my ISP with it. Any ideas where the problem is or what sould I tell to my ISP ?

Thank you guys

* Update - I am using ethernet cable and when testing only my PC is connected to the network (when I was testing different computer I also tried a different ethernet cable). Router restart did not work.

Router: "under the roof", "hard to access"....

Do you mean up in an attic? Where the temperature can get very hot?

Do you have any other devices up there: i.e., cable modem, splitters/filters?

How is everything connected? For example, the following line diagram:

ISP ----coax ---> modem --- Ethernet cable---->[WAN]router -----Ethernet cable [LANs] ---> to devices and ~~~~wireless~~~> wireless devices

Heat is not good for electronics. Devices may work and last for a while. However, they are likely to fail prematurely.

What make and model is the router. Probably need to check the operating specs and the environmental conditions (temperature, moisture, etc.) around it.

Use Task Manager to observe what else your computer is doing. After 7 days, it may be trying to catch up on updates, etc..

Could be that some update that was installed and requires some re-configuration beyond the default values. Or the update was buggy.

Goal is to find some correlation between the lag spikes and something else that can be addressed for a possible fix.

Resource Monitor and Performance Monitor can be used in much the same manner.

Open the tool, watch for a few minutes, leave the window open but slide to one side of the screen. Or another screen. Play CSGO and watch the monitor window.

Some resource, service, or process could be a bottleneck causing the lags.

Oh thanks, Ok I will try it but as I mentioned I also tried it on my notebook and my brother's PC with the same result. So i doubt the machine is casing these lagspikes.
* Update Ok I was monitoring cpu/memory/ssd and hdd usage all these are pretty consistent while playing from 30-50%. I also used my mobile and my mobile internet as i different connection and lagspikes were gone. So it must be something with my internet but I am not able to find what exactly.

"Mobile" being wireless and PC's being wired - correct?

And the lags only on the wired devices - correct?

If so, I would not expect an internet/ISP problem per se.

Modem and router or modem/router? Are you using any access points?

You have already powered off and powered on the router if I understood correctly. Do you have admin rights to the router?

If not, then whomever has admin rights will need to get involved to help. Might need to take a look at the wired configuration settings on the router and serviced wired devices.

1. I connected my phone to my PC via microusb-usb. Then i shared internet connection from my phone (my mobile is connected to a mobile data network so its different network than the one in my home). With this internet connection everything is working just fine.

2. I also used my notebook, which is using WiFi - wirless connection to my home network - which caused the same lag spikes asi it does on my PC/or my brother's PC connected with ethernet cable.

3. Since the router is under the roof it is very hard to actually acces - so by restarting the router I ment shutting down electricity for this section of the house which includes the router. And yes I do have admin rights, I reinstalled firmware on router and setup the connection all over again -> did not help

*Update I noticed that the when a small lag is happening ping goes from 15-25 up to 45-50ms it's small increase but maybe that is causing the lag spikes. I am not sure if such a small increase can cause that so any advice would be helpful. Thank you guys

What frequencies and channels are being used?

Could be traffic and/or interference.

Do some testing to narrow things down. For example, start with just one device in use and add devices one by one in some order. Determine when the lag begins.

Do again in a different order. The lag may or may begin with one particular device or at some certain "load".

Work through that and then post accordingly. Start a new thread and you will most likely receive additional responses.
