I wanted to upgrade my ram and the ram stick I have now is not on stock. Would It work with another brand of RAM fine? My motherboard is an ASUS H81M-K.

Solution
Possibly.

Even buying the exact same model is not a guarantee of compatibility - that's why RAM is sold in "kits" (ie 2x4GB etc) that are tested/validated to work together. There are minor differences in chip batches (or chips within batches), which can lead to compatibility issues.

For the best chance of success, aim for identical speeds/timings/CL, but even then, there's no guarantee.

Depending on what you have currently, you might be better off selling the current module and purchasing a matching "kit" of 2xYGB.

it could be the same speed and even same latency but if the sticks are a different brand or do not come in the same kit then its a crapshoot

It's a crap shoot any which way. If they weren't bought as a matched pair, even same brand, timings, etc., it might work, it might not.

If they're different brands, it might work, it might not.

Worst case, you're stuck running single channel mode.
