GTX 1080 or Vega 56 with my Freesync Monitor.

Howdy.

I seem to be faced with a dilemma.

I have an MSI G27C, a 1080p 144Hz Monitor with Freesync and im looking to buy a graphics card form my PC. I'm stuck between the GTX 1080 and the RX VEGA 56.

I understand that the Vega 56 was made to compete with the 1070, not the 1080, but looking at some benchmarks, it comes quite close to the GTX 1080, and that's without mentioning the huge advantage in raw processing power that future games might take advantage of.

I mean 10.5 TFLOPS to the 1080's flimsy 8.9, and 420 GB/s bandwith compared to the 1080's 320 GB/s (Props to Hynix and AMD for HBM2) and the fact that I will be able to take advantage of my monitor's Freesync is kinda selling me on the Vega 56. And while Vega does have a higher power consumption, it wont bother me much, a 750 Watt power supply will be able to provide the card with enough power (I hope).

I would love to hear your opinions on the matter, and reasons for witch I should or shouldn't go with either.

Thanks in advance,

Sounds as if your mind is made up. It is your money, do with it as you please.

Given that you already bought the monitor, it would be strange to not support the free-sync that the monitor has.

I know that, it's the reason why i included in the post that I'm leaning towards Vega. It's the other benefits of the 1080 that have me in doubt.

My mind is not entirely made up, i wouldn't have posted if it was, I was just listing the benefits of the Vega to see if people could provide an argument for the 1080. While it's my money, i would like to spend it wisely

I prefer Nvidia (physx, cooler, quieter, lower electrical bill, etc). The ROI on the vega rx 56 by itself seems to be below that of the 1070 to me. It seems that you can choose to get a better ROI on the card or the monitor, not both, if you want adaptive sync.

But if I owned a free-sync monitor and was shopping for a video card I would definitely get a Vega RX 56 (64 is too much for the 10% performance bump).

Ok, thank you for your input. After having asked both personal friends and classmates, and got a unanimous vote for the Vega 56, input from this site was final drop in the bucket to sell me on Vega.

Thanks again for the reply. Have a good one.
