Hey everyone!

It's been almost a month and I'm still looking for the best Intel CPU to fit my first build! Went through benchmarks, reviews, advice... Here's my current components:

- MOBO: Asus Z270F Rog Strix.
- RAM: G.Skill Trident Z DDR4 16Gb (2x8) 2400Mhz Cl15.
- GPU: Asus Nvidia GTX 1070 Strix 8Gb.
- PSU: Corsair CX650 W.
- SSD Samsung 850 EVO 500Gb.
- HDD 1Tb Seagate Barracuda.
- Case: NZXT S340 Elite.
- Screen: Acer Predator XB1 24" G-Sync 144Hz.

Still looking for the best CPU to fit the build so I can efficiently benefit from my 1070 without any shortage (90% usage) get 120+ FPS. I went at first for the i5 7600K but after some reviews I wanted to switch to the i7 7700K.

FINALLY IS THE PSU ENOUGH? I would say yes but someone told me to get a better one.

I KNOW ITS WHOLE LOTA TEXT HERE BUT PLZ HELP ME! Should I wait for the 8th Gen and see if the prices drop? I'm willing to OC once I'm confident about it and willing to try new "big" games!

Thank you!

Solution
as others mentioned, the 8th gen i5 will need a new mobo.

prices will drop once 8th gem comes out. i say go 7th gen i5 (7700k).

also with a 1070 GPU why are you using a 1080p display??? go 1440!!!

I personally went with evga supernova g3 650W but yah, the one you chose should be more than enough. I had a similar build to yours. any reason you are going with the z270f instead of the z270e?

also, if you haven't bought the GPU yet, check out EVGA gtx 1070 8gb sc gaming acx 3.0

And, with that mobo please consider going NVME M.2 SSD such as the Samsung 960 EVO 250GB or the Samsung 960 EVO 500GB instead of the 850 EVO. style points! it's like the size of stick of gum!

Intel has a trend of leaving their prices as-is for their line ups, with no visual depreciation for the Kaby Lake lineups at the moment; at least for the next year or so. In all reality, the only reason the Kaby Lake processors dropped in price at all is because of competition, not because of the X processors or Coffee Lake 8th gens.

If you want to wait for Coffee Lake, you will definitely get a better processor than either the i5 7600k or i7 7700k. But remember, that means you’ll have to get a whole new motherboard, and it’s only practical to get better RAM in time. LGA1151 is coming towards EOL in terms of new releases, and i9 was the killer. However, the i7 7700k is still the formidable processor it was upon release. So, if you wanna stay in LGA1151, i7. It does everything the 7600k does but better. But, if you wanna make the step to Coffee Lake and LGA2066, your choice. It’s just more costly.

Hey Atomicdonut17! Thank you!

I am not planning to go get a Coffee Lake CPU. 7th gen is enough for me. I was just asking if the price may go down on the 8th release and thank you for your answer. Now surelly the i7 will perform better than the i5 even more when OC'ed. But will I benefit from the hyperthreading and the cache of the i7 7700k when gaming? like is it worth the jump? ~100$ is ok if i will get something in return.

Thank you

Hey mdd1963 thank you!

You're saying that in my case I would benefit from the hyperthreading and an overclocked i5 7600K wouldn't do the job right?

Thanks!

No doubt the i7 is better, but it’s rather conflicting if it’s 100 better. Apples to apples comparison, they’re both on the same core count, but the i7 puts the i5 on the firing line with double the threads. As well, the i5 7600k is the only i5 if the Kaby Lake architectures that has overclockability. Even then, the most practical clock it can reach, according to Intel, is 4.2 GHz. And that is the BASE speed of the 7700k. So, you could approach the base clock if the opposing i7, but you’re still inhibited by it’s resounding thread bonus. With only 4 physical cores between them, those threads are what make the 100 gap. As well, the i7 has a mildly appreciable 2MB difference between their caches. Is it WORTH a 100 dollar jump? I would say probably not. But, it’s definitely better.
