Hello everyone.

While my system is still running strong after about 3 years, it feels like it's getting a bit sluggish with the time passing. I don't have too much budget to spare, so I'm planning for a multi-phase upgrade.

My current system:
MOBO: MSI Z87-G45 Gaming
CPU:Intel i5-4670 (non-k) @stock + CM Hyper 212 EVO
GPU:ASUS R9 290x DirectCU II OC @stock (tried overclocking/undervolting a bit, but can't get it stable)
HDD:Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200Rpm 64Mb SATA 6GB/s
SSD:Samsung 840 EVO 120GB
PSU:Antec HCG-750M
Case:Corsair Carbide 300r (non-window version)
Monitors: ASUS VG248QE 144hz (primary, PC gaming) and ASUS VS247NR 60Hz (secondary, console gaming and extra PC screen estate)

I plan on re-using heat sink, both storage solutions and the PSU, as well as the case, unless it's strictly necessary to change them.
As the title implies, I'm not into 4k yet. I feel comfortable at 1080p and would rather have a higher framerate than a higher pixel count.

Here are my thoughts.
- Coffee Lake is speeding its way forward toward stock and Ryzen isn't lagging so far behind, so I might upgrade MOBO, RAM and CPU ASAP while holding on my 290x a bit longer. The Hyper 212 should be compatible with both Intel and AMD's new mounting socket (respectively without and with adapters), so I should be able to re-use it without too much effort.
- Wait for Black Friday sales, hoping to find a good substitute for my current GPU.

Solutions I'm considering would end up with a decent enough motherboard to support either a Ryzen 5 1600x or an i5 8600k.
The lucky winner is likely going to feed an ASUS Strix GTX, being either a 1080 O8G or a 1080 Ti O11G, depending on the offers I will find.

Keep in mind that my main usage is gaming, but I literally do pretty much everything with it, from simple web surfing to video editing to video game development.

Am I utterly off-track, besides the pieces I want to upgrade to being overkill? Are there any solutions I'm not considering? Any advice/comment/critic is appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your time!
