G.skill tridentx 2133mhz cas 9 in a ASRock H97M-ITX/AC

So here is the thing. Specs for the 2133mhz tridentx says that it can run at 1600mhz at cas 7. However, when I put it into the motherboard, default (1333mhz) runs at cas 9, and when put on 1600mhz, it runs at cas 11.

I tried tweaking the XMP profile, but I don't understand it enough to make it stable. To my knowledge, both the motherboard and the cpu support 1600mhz at 1.5 v. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and id love to get that ram working at cas 7 on 1600Mhz.

Specs:
Intel i5-4590
Graphics: Gtx1060 6 gb strix-oc
Motherboard: AsRock H97M-ITX/ac
Ram: G.Skill tridentx 2133mhz version
PSU: EVGA SUPERNOVA 750

Ps. Max supported speed for motherboard is 1600. XMP profiles shown are only for 1333, 1069 (or something), 800, and 2 XMP for 2133mhz.

Yeah I have never used an H97 board, it could be that only Z97 will allow you to manually change stuff like that. It may only allow official JDEC standard speeds and timings for DDR3. If so then something like 1600mhz 9-11-11-24 may be the best the motherboard will allow, however I would think it would at least allow 9-9-9-24@1600mhz.

It doesn't let you manually change the timings and speeds? I would not use XMP at all and manually change the speed to 1600mhz and primary timings to 7-8-8-24. I am not familiar enough with the asrock UEFI to tell you exactly where to go but I will try to find a guide for you.

Sadly no, it doesn't let me do it manually, Its kinda dumb, you have to checkmark different things in the existing profiles and that gives the change. Haven't looked if there are any 8s around there, but if I remember correctly, none of them had 7-8-8-24, think the closest was 9-11-11-24. I'll check as soon as I get home. Been breaking my head since yesterday night.

Would changing those times be the only thing I'd need to do?

I did read the manual you know xD, I need a little bit more insight . When I check mark stuff it usually leads to an unstable system, no boot until it reverts back to the Las known working configuration.

Also, I mentioned that I did that before one comment above you.

Ugh, that's what I was afraid of. Yes it might be that it can only work with the z97. That's what happens when you buy the cheapest products, good bang for the buck, but so outdated !

Do you know if it affects my system too much if it can't boot over and over? It's always scary when it does haha, until it gets back to normal.

I'll try to check if I can get 9-9-9-24 and\ or 9-11-11-24 and hope for the best. Yesterday I tried 7-7-7-20 and that's what caused the problems, scared the cap outta me lol.

If it works, is that the only thing I'd need to modifym? No voltages on the cpu or ram or anything right?

As a follow up to any person using this motherboard.

It turned out that I could get to 9-9-9-24, but that's the lowest stable clocks it will get. Be sure tu check in both slots because the profiles only change clocks for one stick (selection of which stick will be at the top left of the window). Paradoxically, if you disable Intel turbo thing, it will drive your cpu to be working at max under no load ( mine working at an overlooked rate *3.8 Ghz when max is 3.3Ghz) so don't touch anything else. In any case of mess ups, just load the default uefi settings, save and exit. It will revert everything back to normal.

In case of an unstable system, after a couple of failed loads, stick speeds will go to default (1333Mhz), we'll at least in my experience.
