My X220 came with a 4 GB DDR3L 1333 MHZ Hynix memory stick. I bought two memory sticks that differ in brand, but are both DDR3L and 1600 MHZ (Samsung and SK Hynix). I removed my original RAM stick and placed the two of them inside, only to see that the BIOS wouldn't load and to hear the 1-3-3-1 beep codes. So then I tested to see if they would work individually, and the SK Hynix works but only for a brief period of time before my computer crashes itself and shuts down. I thought that maybe it could be the BIOS, since I didn't have modified version 1.43 installed into the system. I proceeded to download the updated BIOS version and the modified one afterward. Thinking that this would possibly fix the issue, I still receive the same problems. I'm not sure what the issue is, but it's causing me a headache and I don't want to stay stuck with 4 GB of RAM for the time that I'll have this machine.

Solution
Return the RAM you bought, go to www.crucial.com, plug in your system model in the search, the RAM it shows there is guaranteed to work with the system.
