I currently have a Netgear R7000 router with DD-WRT and a VPN setup on it. The wireless network works good but some services like Amazon and VUDU stopped working because the VPN says I'm in a different location.

What I want to do is add a wireless router that will not use the VPN so I can stream those services but also keep the other wireless router for other devices.

Is this possible to do? If so what would be the best approach to do this correctly without messing up the VPN router?

Thank you

Not really if the device you are calling a cable modem is actually that a MODEM only. ISP generally will only give you a single public IP address and the first router you connect to the modem gets it.

What I suppose you could do is place a new router with no vpn to the modem and then place the VPN route behind that one.

You can actually do what you want on the vpn router. It been a bit since I used dd-wrt and they have changed the screens around. You should be able to put in lists of traffic (like amazon and vudu) that bypass the vpn. You could also do fancy stuff like put in secondary SSID with different subnets and put in rules that say device on those subnets bypass the vpn.

Thank you Bill.
I didn't know I could bypass sites. I will look into DD-WRT to see how this can be done.

Is this what you are saying should work? Will this still allow the VPN router to keep my traffic private?
ISP Line => Cabel Modem => Router (No VPN) => Router (VPN) All of these connections will be network cabels.

That is exactly what I want to do. Allow the TVs and other devices connect to the non-vpn router and only a couple of computers in my office to use the VPN router. I guess I could use a normal router and not wireless since those computers use network cables to connect.

Thank you so much for your help.
