I have a PC which currently have 5gb of DDR3 RAM (4gb+1gb) and Pentium Dual core processor. I want to swap my 1gb stick with a 4gb stick and make it 8GB in total. So, I was wondering whether it will be worth it to upgrade to 8gb ram with this processor? Will the overall configuration bottleneck my ram performance?
- My Motherboard can support upto 8GB ram.

My PC Specs -
1. Processor - Pentium Dual Core E5700 @ 3.0 Ghz
2. Ram - 5GB DDR3 ram
3. Motherboard - Foxconn G41mxe
4. Graphics Card - Nvidia GT 710
6. Windows 10 (64-bit)

PS - I usually play some games and i am much into app development.

hard to say if you'd notice the difference.

the CPU isn't very powerful,
the GPU isn't very powerful

I doubt the games you play would require more than 5GB, and no Windows 10 does not need 4GB. It can move data out as needed. My dad only has 2GB on his laptop and it boots up using 1GB only, and I've even played Torchlight on it no problem.

So...

You MAY benefit though I'd consider getting an SSD instead of you don't have one.

If you still intend to get another 4GB of DDR3 then I suggest you try in this order:

1) look for the EXACT model you have already, or
2) if you can't find that look for the same FREQUENCY, Voltage and CAS (i.e. 1600MHz, 1.5V, CL11)

3) then run MEMTEST86 for a full pass www.memtest86.com

Here's some 4GB...
I have a similar system but I run a Q8200, and the performance from 4 to 8gb with windows 10 does result in faster results,
windows 10 needs 4gb to run it self it least little for your apps, I would get the extra 4gb.

You Should seriously consider to upgrade that CPU as well, you can look at this listing of CPU compatible with your motherboard http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Foxconn/G41MXE.html ,and you will find that a Q9xxx series isn't all that expensive, and if you game a Qxxxx series would improve your pleasure.

The Q8200 is double the power in processing power for (looked on ebay for about 15$), Q9650 for four times more power than what your running for about 65$ on ebay.

more ram is great idea, but I would upgrade cpu as well, as it is a cheap option

Here's some 4GB, DDR3 memory sticks: https://pcpartpicker.com/products/memory/#Z=4096001&sort=price

It's only about $25 to $40 (plus tax/ship) for another 4GB stick so it's probably worth it to try.

*Note that Google Chrome and other web browsers can eat up a lot of your DDR3 memory as well as CPU cycles. I would close out browsers (or limit to a couple tabs you CURRENTLY need) when using other programs that also need a lot of memory and CPU.
