That difference will reduce drastically with 2666, and there will always be one or two odd games which are RAM sensitive. But otherwise, they should be pretty much on par. If budget permits, it does not hurt to go with higher RAM though.

Very good build except PSU and ram. Get fast ram, with your excellent specs, slow ram may bottleneck you in some games. For PSU, get a fully modular one, recommend Seasonic Focus or EVGA supernova g2/g3/p2, whichever comes cheaper :) Reliable PSU is like the heart of a PC:)

It depends which TXM model it is. If its the older unit, then its not that good, but the new model is pretty good on efficiency and quality... https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/631048-psu-tier-list-updated/

The RAM wont make much difference if this is for gaming except for a few fps here and there, but for non gaming workload, higher RAM would be beneficial. Applies to OC as well.

Very good build overall.

Agreed, I am not saying Corsair is not good, just I think full modular is better :) I recommend something I am more familiar with :)

Ram basically never bottlenecks in game, unless it doesn't have enough capacity. Faster ram will only help when the CPU is bottleneck. https://pcpartpicker.com/forums/topic/240996-ram-and-its-effects-in-games-redux

The z370 versions are not yet tested as they have been just launched but spec wise, they should be pretty much identical to their z270 versions. Basically they are both on the same category with Asus having more rear I/O panel connectivity slots and slightly better VRM for OCing. Here is a gist of the comparison...
http://ddr4motherboard.com/compare/ASUS-ROG-MAXIMUS-IX-HERO-vs-GIGABYTE-GA-Z270X-GAMING-7-REV.-1.0-vs-GIGABYTE-GA-Z270-HD3-REV.-1.0

If budget permits, the Maximus Code is better than both of the boards.
