So my WD 2.5inch 750gb drive has a tonne of bad sectors and I keep getting BSOD and chkdsk does not fix them.

If I order a new HDD what happens to my OS that is pre installed on my current failing one?

Would I have to buy a brand new copy of Windows to install on to it?

Sorry if I sound dumb.

Thanks for any help.

You need to reinstall windows on new hdd from an usb stick (pref. created on another pc). Once installed and connected to internet windows should reactivate itself (win8 may ask for a install key - which you should have on a sticker on computer). If don`t you need to call M$ in your country and ask them to reactivate it for you (then you must provide proof of purchase by either a old install key from a sticker or a bill).
Second option is to clone that hdd - but it will clone the errors too & will take a long time...a windows refresh from within windows itself should fix the errors.
Any option you choose - FIRST you will need to back-up your DATA (aka files/photos/etc) onto another (external) drive! Borrow from friends for a day or two...

Thanks for the reply.

How would I go about putting my current legit version of windows 8 on to a USB stick for loading up on the new HDD?

Thanks
