Using old Modem-Router as Router only

So I've seen this posted elsewhere but I have a problem following most of what I've found. Namely, my TRENDnet AC750, when I attempt to disable DHCP I get an error message "Domain Name must be in 'xxxxxx.xxxxxxxx.xxxxx.xxx' format only." I had not altered the domain already in place, though it clearly does not match the format given by the error message.

Is there anyway to make it work, or am I going to have to spend the money to get a new router (the easier way, but I'd rather not spend the money)?

You need to ADD the settings for the connection to your ISP under ethernet.

Briefly talks about this on page 25: http://www.trendnet.com/download_manager/default.asp?iFile=27652
Unfortunately the manual does not go into any additional detail on this.

If using standard residential cable internet then you should need no VLAN ID (if it requires one then try 1 try 2), with protocol being dynamic IP/DHCP and no user/id password.
If your ISP is not using that standard or requires a static IP configuration you will need to get those settings from them.

You need to have DHCP turned on, otherwise every wired and wireless device will need to have a static IP.

Also FYI that router only has 100mbps lan ports, so if your internet is faster than...
Where do you get that error message, domain name has to do with DNS, nothing to do with DHCP

Your AC750 has a WAN port so it should be able to be used as a router only, you need to plug the connection from modem into the RED port.

Now if I may ask why are you trying to dissable DHCP? Typically a wifi router would have DHCP enabled so wifi devices could get an address.

All DHCP and DNS seemed to be lumped together within the router setting, hence why I'm having the issue (I can provide screen shot if needed of the router's interface showing such).

I've tried such to no avail, repeatedly. I tried resetting to factory settings, rebooting both modem and router, etc. and I'm having no luck.

Ignorance informed by google searches, mainly. My searches on how to make my modem+router as router only said to disable to DHCP. That said, if I'm barking up the wrong tree I would not be shocked, it's why I'm here and asking. Any advice on how to get it to work would be nice.
