Hi.

I have a smart device called Sensibo Sky. Its a device that lets you remote control things like an air condition. Normal setup would be to connect the Sensibo Sky device to a WiFi network, then use an app on your phone to remote control the device. That part in itself is no problem. Here is where my problem comes in:

I have the air condition unit at a camping site. At this camping site, there is public WiFi. This WiFi network use a captive portal. Once you connect to the network, a browser window pops up, and you have to enter an username/password to get internet access. Its also possible to press the "skip login" option, and you still get internet access.

The problem is that the Sensibo Sky unit doesnt support connection to WiFi networks using captive portal.

Is there any solution to this? Is it possible to use a router in bridge mode between the Sensibo Sky unit and the public Wifi, making the router bypass the captive portal login somehow?

No simple way, the router is in a way pretty dumb. It only cares about things like mac addresses and IP addresses it does not even look at what is inside the data stream. You would have to write a custom program that would intercept the data stream and then do the authentication. Almost as much work as if you asked how you can make a router do the captive portal feature.

If you really want to do this it would likely be easier to buy something like a raspberry pi connect it behind the router and have it authenticate the connection. Then any other device connected to the router would appear to be the same as the raspberry since they all share the same wan/ip address.

Hi. Thanks for your reply. Pity to hear that its no easy solution to it. Also thanks for the tip regarding using a Rasberry Pi :)
