Can the turbo speeds of the i5 8400 be sustained for a longer period of time (gaming) or is this speed only available for short bursts? Of course with sufficient cooling?

Some more questions:

  • ■In other words, is there a noticeable delay when the cpu goes from 2.8ghz to 4.0ghz all the time?
■Is there a way to make it so it runs at 4.0ghz all the time on those $119 Z370 mobos?

Solution
Turbo boost speed in Intel CPUs is dependent on a couple things. #1 how many CPUs are busy. #2 Cooling. If you don't have all the CPUs maxed out, with adequate cooling, then you get the max boost. Can you set it so it is 4Ghz all the time? Maybe. It is not an unlocked CPU ("k" or "x") so it may not be overclockable. Is there a noticeable delay with clock speed change? No.

So the 8400 default stock cooling should be fine to achieve the max boost?

Ty sir for all the answers!
