Hello, everyone. I know that this has been debated over and over, but I am a (complete) rookie when it comes to things such as cpu voltages and speeds and I need your advices.
So, I finally bought my first I7, and it is a 4790k with an Asrock Fatality Killer Z97 mobo. I also have an Arctic Cooler Freezer Extreme Rev. 2 cooler on my CPU. If it matters, the RAM is made out of 12GB DDR3 Corsair running at 1600Mhz (2x4 and 2x2), and the PSU is a 600watts Recom.
1. In idle, the temperatures vary between 31 - 41 degrees Celsius, and in one hour of gaming, I noticed it never exceeded 70 degrees Celsius. Also, when surfing the web, listening to music or watching movies, it can reach almost 60. Is this ok? Isn't the gap too big, especially in idle (10 degrees)? For example, my last cpu (I3 3240), oscilated between only 22-23-24 degrees in idle.
2. I explored my mobo bios (without clicking on anything), and I noticed the following CPU voltages:
a) CPU Input Voltage 1.792
b) CPU Vcore 1.064
c) CPU Cache Voltage 1.160
Is this ok for my CPU? What does it mean?
3. How do I know my CPU is not overclocked? Because for the time being, I do not want to oc it, because my cooler and case are not very expensive.
Thank you very much.

Hi so sorry for the late response.
Yes i would suggest bigger fans for sure, if possible. And in terms of your voltages and clock speeds, theyre almost identical to mine. Never exceeding 1.23 if i remember correct. And to set everything to default you need to go into the save/load section of your bios and there should be an option to "revert to default" or something along those lines. Im very new to this too, and my GPU set on fire last night so yeah.. panic mode set it haha. I wouldnt worry too much about your temps. If you upgrade fans you will be surprised at how much airflow can drastically decrease temps. For example i previously had a 240mm rad with 2x 120 fans at 50% and im seeing roughly 5c decrease in temps with only 25% fan...

Hey i also own an i7 4790k at stock, mine is cooled using a Kraken x62 though and gaming temps for me are around the 50 mark. I would say your temps arent awful but some people would say different. How many fans do you have? And in what setup?

If you want to be 100% sure that your cpu is NOT overclocked is to go into bios and reset to defaults. I did this when i first got my PC as my mobo auto Overclocked

Thank you for your answer. You really have nice temps :) Currently, my case is very poor (only 2x80mm fans - one intake and one exhaust), but I will upgrade in about 2 weeks to a new case with 5 120mm fans (3 intakes and 2 exhausts). I don't think the CPU is overclocked, because in CPU-Z it never exceeds 4.390MHZ and a voltage bigger than 1.2V, and when not doing anything, these values downgrade to about 800MHZ and respectively 0.760V. I also see a lot of values to 'AUTO' in my bios, so I guess it's not being messed with. Btw, how do I reset these values to default (complete rookie, as mentioned)?

For example i previously had a 240mm rad with 2x 120 fans at 50% and im seeing roughly 5c decrease in temps with only 25% fan speed on a 280mm rad with matching fans. So im sure you will see a difference especially given you would be upgrading to more fans. Also try your best to direct airflow in through the front of your case, and out the back and top if possible. I hope this helps a little and good luck
