Hi, I bought an used HP 6200 Pro for a budget build. I want to put a 1060 3gb in there, but I'm worried about a lot of compatibility issues. Anyone tried this before please tell me if it will work? I'm worried about things like: Q65 chipset doesn't support PCIe x16 but the HP website says it does? Is there any wattage restrictions and would a new PSU solve that?

Not at 60C+. Throttle on Intel CPUs is much higher. AMD 8 cores tend to throttle when ever they like it seems. ;)

Those OEM cases don't usually have more than a small exhaust fan. Might take temps a bit higher than normal if air flow is limited. But you really need to tell me what your CPU is for good advice.

Ended up with 1050 Ti. CPU temperature goes quite high though, like 60+, and the max temp for this CPU is said to be 72.5 on Intel's website. This seems pretty dangerous? Should I change the heatsink? fan? Can I even add a front intake fan?

That temp isn't dangerous. Not if the CPU was under load like gaming or running a stress test. And 72.5C is their "recommended" max temp. The CPU can withstand far higher temps than that for short periods w/o damage. What CPU is it?

Btw, you never answered my question; mini tower or desktop, or small form factor PC?

Would be pretty interesting to see if a gtx 1060 would work, there is a 8300 microtower at my work that recently was decommissioned. One thing I noticed though is that the MB power is not the normal 24 pin power, but it looks like it is split into a number of different cables and connections, I count 3 of them coming from the power supply. Is there a converter that would work, or would the best option be to go and get a PSU from something like HP's Z desktop lineup? This is assuming that all of the MB power connectors are the same.
