Hey community its been quite some time since I've asked, but its about that time again. I have had my machine for quite sometime and have made minor upgrades to it that has complimented each other quite well and have lead me to want to upgrade some more.

My current rig is on a windows 10
250gb SSD
CPU: i7-2600
ASRock Z77 Extreme4
DDR3 8GB (7.88 usable)
evga nvidia gtx 1060 SSC 6gb

Now I have three questions. I love gaming, and I've been looking at vram and its affects on fps, performance etc. Yet, I haven't payed much attention to the market to know what to upgrade to.

I have a quite alot of questions to ask. First starting with memory. If I were to buy one more DDR3 8GB stick would that help run things smoother when I stream and would it help compliment the CPU and Graphics card during game sessions?

In regards to a MOBO. Would upgrading my MOBO to handle DDR4 be better then running another DDR3 8GB stick on my current MOBO. esp. when it comes to running a stream or video editing software commands or would it be the same?

If it is, would upgrading my MOBO require me to upgrade my CPU??? I would think my graphics card does well with my CPU and that my CPU is still used by many because of its longevity, but can it be better with a new MOBO and is my CPU bottlenecking my GPU?

If I do buy a new MOBO and CPU is there a MOBO that exists that accepts both DDR3 and DDR4? If there is such a MOBO out there would it work with my CPU because I know my CPU is second generation and DDR4 are newer.

Thank you,

Sebas

I would recommend at least 3000MHz DDR4 with Ryzen because Ryzen likes fast RAM. Also, I don't know a lot about the expensive AMD boards because I haven't researched them as much as the Intel boards. But the MSI Pro Carbon is one of the cheaper, upper-tier/high-end boards I know of.

Memory: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory ($159.89 @ OutletPC)

Whether you upgrade any one of the parts CPU/Mobo/RAM, you will need to upgrade all three. Some motherboards will allows DDR3L and DDR4, but you'd have to have low voltage DDR3L and it might not even work plus those motherboards are usually budget oriented and not very good. The motherboards that do support both DDR3L/DDR4 will not work with your CPU because your CPU will not support DDR4. Those boards are for the newer CPUs that are meant for DDR4, but will allows them to work with low voltage DDR3.

Depending on the game you play while streaming, Ryzen 5 1600 or Ryzen 7 1700 paired with 3000MHz DDR4 RAM might give you the performance increase in streaming that you are looking for.

1) Are you using all 8gb of memory you already have or coming very close? If not adding more RAM will do little to nothing.

2) You cant. Even if you could I dont think it would be worth the money.

3) For any mobo that supports DDR4 you will need to upgrade that CPU. Skylake were the first intel CPU's not on an ethusiast platform to support DDR4.

Sure. 8GB is not enough for latest games. 16GB is recommended.

Not really.

Of course.

Nope. Your cpu does not support DDR4 and is incompatible with any motherboard supporting DDR4.

Now would this CPU be work for my current MOBO? What MOBO would work fine with both Ryzen 5 1600 or Ryzen 7 1700

What would be a good MOBO and CPU Combo for DDR4 that compliments my GPU.

Okay, perfect. Are there any beneficial CPU you could recommend in accordance to a upgraded MOBO?

Well the Ryzen 7 1700 seems pretty good at 300
so for CPU I'd say 300 bucks

and for MOBO anything that can support ddr4 and new CPU. 150-250
